The book I decided on was called World War Z by Max Brooks. I was initially skeptical, but it turns out he wrote a masterpiece. This wasn’t your ordinary story. Instead of being written like a traditional book, it’s an oral history of the war against the living dead, as told through the accounts of the survivors interviewed by a United Nations Postwar Commission Agent. There were many narratives and firsthand accounts of what happened during the start of the war, the grim times during the war, and the sparkle of hope towards the end of the book. As an Israeli survivor said, “We had to believe. That’s the only thing that kept us going. Hope.”
