Reading Journal Blog

I have been reading since I was 7 and I’ve been enjoying it ever since. I used to read a lot, until I read all of the books that were bought for me and almost all the books that my older sister was bought. I don’t really read that much other than the Bible. I’m very picky with what genres I like to read, but there are a few genres that I like such as romance and fiction. Although I like to read, there are some issues I have with reading and picking books. I usually read Young Adult books and that can have its problems such as some of the books are too violent, vulgar, and sexual for my liking. Another challenge I have with reading is that I can get uninterested at the most random times which can include when I’m in the middle of reading books. To add on, that I face when reading a book is sometimes, I will shift my mental focus from the book to something interesting I learned earlier that day or a song that has been stuck in my head.

For Independant reading, I chose the world-renowned classic, Moby Dick by Herman Melville. One of the reasons why I chose that book is because the book’s cover is a lovely shade of blue and it gives you a bit of insight of what the book is about. Another reason why I chose this book is because I’m interested in marine animals and the ocean. On top of that, I also wanted to try a new book genre and so far, it has been good except for a certain part of chapter 2 which was subtly racist. But I know that was the time period of the normalization of racism.
